Perhaps the greatest cause of human suffering is to be disconnected from our tribe, without

the experience of safe belonging, without the shared pleasure of touch and closeness that are the foundation of intimacy...

Abuse, abandonment, neglect, and betrayal are all violations of the biological imperative of loving connection embedded in the developmental blueprint of the heart.

 - Dr Aline La Pierre, founder of Neuro Affective Touch

There is something about being touched and allowing the feeling to come that paved the way to

knowing what caused the pain and sadness

- Marion Rosen

Healing preverbal trauma requires the body to receive the attuned mothering it did not have. The body needs to experience what was missing - not remember it.

What is NeuroAffective Touch®?

NeuroAffective Touch is a polyvagal-informed psychobiological bodywork approach, integrating the key elements of somatic psychotherapy, attachment and developmental theory, psychodynamic psychotherapy, and affective (emotional) and interpersonal neurobiology.  This nurturing touch offers what was missing on a deep fundamental level in the pre, peri and post natal early years of life.

This work has been described as offering archetypal mothering, and as channelling the Divine Feminine. Seeing the unseen, and touching the untouched deep in our psyche. Attunement and safe intimacy to another are a birthright, and a biological imperative. In early years trauma repair work, nurturing attuned touch is particularly important to address deep nonverbal neurological and emotional deficits, breaches in connection, disassociation, chronic bracing freeze patterns, soul-loss, and collapse.

This is a bottom-up process - working with bodily, involuntary and unconscious patterns. By connecting directly with the body’s bottom-up, nonverbal sensations and emotions, NeuroAffective Touch speaks directly to the body in its own language, and to the nonverbal trauma that is held there.

Benefits of NeuroAffective Touch

The cycles of the flow and pulsation in our bodies are interrupted in trauma. With touch we are supporting a to return to a fullness of flow. This goes beyond muscle tension into the deep structure for life force itself, which can be reached through touch. The state of your pulsation and flow is the measure of your aliveness and embodiment.

This gentle touch invites the mind to collaborate as an active partner while engaging the body wisdom as it is, at the deepest biological level. When we build a connection with the body's intelligence and its equal importance to the mind, this approach cultivates a conscious compassionate dialogue between body and mind. In addressing these early nonverbal emotional and relational ruptures, it supports the transformation of developmental traumas - helping us to expand our relational capacity to receive, give, relate, connect and feel safe in our bodies, and with others, feel our boundaries and restore a sense of wholeness.

When we touch the body, we touch the nervous system. The compassionate witnessing of this touch offers co-regulation for the nervous system - a way to be seen, heard and met, attuned to, nurtured. To feel the Welcome into the world that is our birthright, a somatic, nonverbal acceptance. It offers us a space feel what it is to be fully received, with a present witness.
